End of days at Donny and beyond – better turn up the heat
Robin Gibson takes the temperature in racing’s digital climate
It’s that time of year again. The Flat gives up, the jumps start up, and you have to turn up the radiators. These days you can do it remotely with Nest, which seemed pretty innocent at first – just a simple, WiFi-enabled, learning thermostat for busy people who’d discharged all pressing duties and cares.
Then Google bought it. Now it’s Google Nest, a ‘helpful’ (I’ll bet) system, with added security cams, spying doorbells, face recognition, motion sensors, smart locks and humane steel snares (NestVigilante model only).
You can see where this is going (with your data, and your face). But there’s hope. Honeywell have launched a simple, WiFi-enabled learning thermostat! Eventually some firm will come out with an ordinary thermostat.
