BHA chief executive Nick Rust nominates his Ten To Follow
Enter the Tote Ten To Follow here
It's great to have the chance to compile a list as I'm not allowed to bet and it gives me an interest. I used to enter the competition in the past – I never had much success but it was great fun.
I've been enjoying the coverage the competition has had in the Racing Post and it's a great initiative by the new owners of the Tote to bring it back as it gives additional joy to a lot of people through the season. I just wish I was allowed to enter!
It's very hard to balance your list, to get the right mix and try to aim for the points and I'm worried that I've chosen too many chasers who are going to come up against each other.
But you'll see from my list I'm expecting and hoping for a big season for British-trained horses.
The one I'm most excited about is Lostintranslation. When Colin Tizzard says he's excited about a horse you have to take notice, and his Betfair Chase win showed he could well be this season's Gold Cup horse.
I also like Vinndication, who's progressing well, and I think he may be up to taking part in some of the top Graded races but I also hope he could be a Grand National horse – Kim Bailey has shown he can handle one for that race.
I really like Ballyoptic, who's progressive and stays. He had a stiff task behind Lostintranslation at Haydock, but I think we're going to have a wet winter with lots of heavy ground and he'll thrive on that.
Paisley Park is another I'm looking forward to and Emma Lavelle will have him ready for the stayers' hurdles this year.
Those are the ones who excite me most and I tried to balance the rest of the list with horses who could go for the main championship points.
So I've gone forAltior, Champ, Clan Des Obeaux, Defi Du Seuil, Native River and Verdana Blue – she's my longshot choice, in the hope she will improve again and feature prominently in the Champion Hurdle.
