Entain in advanced talks to appoint first female chief executive
Entain, the parent company of Ladbrokes and Coral, is in talks to appoint the first female chief executive of a major listed British gambling group with the appointment potentially being made as early as next week.
According to Sky News, Jette Nygaard-Andersen is in advanced talks to take over at the helm of the company, until recently known as GVC Holdings, as it attempts to fend off an £8.1 billion takeover from US casino giant MGM Resorts.
On Monday, Entain revealed the shock departure of CEO Shay Segev, who replaced Honeysuckle's owner Kenny Alexander as the head of the firm last summer, to join sports streaming platform DAZN.
Dane Nygaard-Andersen is already a non-executive director on the Entain board and has spent 15 years in leading executive roles. Sources indicated to Sky News that her appointment as Entain CEO would be permanent rather than interim if it goes ahead.
While the potential appointment of Nygaard-Andersen to the top role at Entain would mark a significant moment for listed gambling firms in Britain, she would not be the only female to run a leading bookmaker as Denise Coates heads the hugely successful, and privately-owned, bet365.
Entain is in the midst of fending off a takeover from MGM Resorts having rejected an offer last week as it "significantly undervalued" the company, according to its board.
At 11am on Friday, shares in Entain were up 14.5p to 1,420p on the London Stock Exchange.
