Sponsors Coral have sought to dampen concerns about prize-money for the Scottish Grand National in April after the prize fund was listed at a 65 per cent lower level this year compared to the 2019 running.

The 2019 Coral Scottish Grand National was worth £215,000 when won by Takingrisks but this year’s race has been listed with total prize-money of £75,000, a drop of £140,000, according to the BHA racing admin website. Last year’s race was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Prize-money has been impacted across racing during the crisis with spectators unable to attend the races, levy and media rights income falling as a result of betting shop closures and loss of sponsorships.
