Bay Bridge will face four rivals on his first try at Group 1 level in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday (3.40).

A stunning winner of last month's Brigadier Gerard Stakes, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old has won his last five races and will be ridden by Ryan Moore in the day two highlight, which has attracted five runners from four different countries.

Fresh from his Derby success with Desert Crown, Stoute targets a third win in the race in five years following victories with Poet’s Word (2018) and Crystal Ocean (2019).

The trainer said: "Bay Bridge performed very well at Sandown, where he was very impressive, but he is now taking on much tougher opposition so it’s going to be interesting.

"He showed promise from the first time he won and he's continued to progress. He seems in fine shape and I don't think fast ground will be a problem. It's going to be a fascinating race and we are looking forward to it."

The Prince of Wales's, which forms part of the Qipco British Champions Series, is worth £1 million for the first time this year.

Shahryar leads the opposition to Bay Bridge and will look to continue Japan's dominance on the global stage following the country's successes on Dubai World Cup night and at last year's Breeders' Cup.

Winner of the Japanese Derby and Sheema Classic, the Hideaki Fujiwara-trained colt will be partnered by Arc-winning jockey Cristian Demuro, who was aboard leading French hope Grand Glory on both his victories this season.

Mickael Barzalona takes over on Grand Glory, who won the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet last year for trainer Gianluca Bietolini.

Lord North won the race in 2020 and seeks a fourth victory at the highest level under Frankie Dettori.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained six-year-old's career has been interrupted by injury in recent years but he won the Dubai Turf for the second year in a row when dead-heating with Panthalassa in March.

Lord North was fourth in last month's Tattersalls Gold Cup, which was won by Alenquer, with State Of Rest a place in front in third.

Prior to that, the Joseph O'Brien-trained four-year-old won the Group 1 Prix Ganay and he completes the five-strong field for the Prince of Wales's.

William Haggas-trained pair Addeybb and Dubai Honour and Aidan O'Brien's Broome were the three not to be declared.

Star fillies clash in Duke of Cambridge

Mother Earth and Saffron Beach will renew an intense rivalry in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes (4.20) after a field of eight was declared for the Group 2 contest.

Mother Earth beat Saffron Beach by a length in the 1,000 Guineas, but the runner-up gained her revenge in the Sun Chariot back at Newmarket last October.

Aidan O'Brien has opted to run Mother Earth in first-time cheekpieces after she finished only seventh in the Lockinge Stakes last time.

Cheveley Park Stud rely on Princess Elizabeth Stakes winner Bashkirova after deciding to run Lights On in Tuesday's Queen Anne Stakes.

Queen's Vase and Hunt Cup fields revealed

Aidan O'Brien has dominated the Queen's Vase (3.05) with five victories from the last nine runnings and relies solely on Anchorage this time.

Nahanni makes a quick turnaround from the Derby and is the mount of William Buick, with James Doyle on Charlie Appleby-trained stablemate Hafit, while the unbeaten Eldar Eldarov represents trainer Roger Varian.

Dark Shift, one of the leading contenders for the Royal Hunt Cup (5.00), has snuck into the 30-runner line-up and will be ridden by James McDonald.

Hortzadar is the last horse to make the cut, with You're Hired, Forest Falcon and Redarna the three reserves.

Watering continues at Ascot

The ground at Ascot remained good to firm, good in places on Monday morning following another dry night.

Watering is taking place with 8mm being added to the straight course on Monday morning after 10mm was applied to both the straight course and the round track over the weekend.
