Conditional jockey Beswick eyeing swift return after crunching Sedgefield fall

Conditional jockey Harry Beswick, who was knocked out following a fall at Sedgefield this month, hopes to return to action by the start of January.

Beswick, who is based with Lambourn trainer Oliver Sherwood, was riding Dancing Doug for Sam Thomas when the four-year-old slipped on the bend three out.

Beswick took what he described as the "mother and father of falls" and suffered multiples fractures, although his head injury and concussion were the main concern.

"I'm out of hospital and on the road to recovery," said Beswick, whose career high came at Uttoxeter in January when he rode a double. "It's hard to tell when I'll be back, but I'd like to think I'd be back by the end of the month or the beginning of January.

"I've got no serious breaks, but it's just with the head and how long that takes. I've had some scans and everything is fine, but I wouldn't quite be 100 per cent yet. I'll let the professionals let me know when I can come back."

Beswick, who rode in France during the summer, added: "I've been popping into Oliver's to see the horses exercise and I've got a load of friends and family round, so that's quite nice."
