Liverpool could provide the backdrop for horses racing in the street in April after City Racing revealed its intention to host the inaugural event in the home city of the Grand National, following a crucial private trials morning in Newmarket on Thursday.

The key examinations took place in front of officials from the BHA and Liverpool City Council, with the future of the project hanging on convincing the two parties the racing is safe and logistically possible.

Public testing took place at Aintree last year, but the BHA requested a further inspection of the proposed surface with concerns raised over the welfare of the participants and the speed the track could be safely laid and taken up.
