Champions Day 2020: all you need to know for Britain's richest raceday

Qipco British Champions Day is the country's richest raceday with four Group 1 races on offer including the Champion Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Held on Saturday October 17 at Ascot racecourse, the meeting brings together a number of world-class horses, jockeys and trainers for what has become the culmination of the British Flat season.

Star names such as Magical, Mishriff, Kameko and Dream Of Dreams are all set to appear.

The racing will be shown on ITV and Sky Sports Racing, while you can also stream and bet on the races on the Racing Post website and mobile app.

What is British Champion Day and why is it so important?

British Champions Day came into being in 2011 and is British Flat racing's end-of-season bonanza held in mid-October. With £2.5 million in prize-money up for grabs across six races, the meeting attracts some of the best horses in the world.

Who is running?

Magical won the Champion Stakes last season and will arrive at Ascot having got the better of Ghaiyyath in the Irish Champion Stakes last time.

The pair are on course to clash again, along with French Derby winner Mishriff, trained by John Gosden. Runaway Qipco 1,000 Guineas and Investec Oaks heroine Love also remains a possible runner.

Kameko will look to finish his season a high in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes where he will face the unbeaten Palace Pier, French raider The Revenant and Circus Maximus.

Oxted, One Master and Dream of Dreams are in line to clash in the Champions Sprint.

Which horses have won at the meeting?

Frankel illuminated the early days of British Champions Day, winning the 2011 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the 2012 Champion Stakes in impressive style.

Cracksman, another top-class middle-distance performer, won back-to-back runnings of the Champion Stakes, including a seven-length demolition of a class field in the 2017.

The likes of Minding, Roaring Lion and Excelebration are others to have illuminated the meeting, while the Champions Sprint has been won by horses priced 33-1 and 28-1 in the last two years.
