Apprentice Cameron Noble has apologised for mistakenly riding a finish a lap early at Chester on Friday and is focused on working twice as hard to prove himself again.

Noble had celebrated a first success at the course aboard the Ian Williams-trained Heart Of Soul in the 1m4f apprentice handicap earlier on the card but was suspended for ten days for his ride on stablemate Michael’s Mount in the concluding 2m2f Chester Plate.

The rider, who will be on the sidelines from May 24 to June 3, kicked for home on the turn into the straight for the first time before realising his error. His mount eventually finished fourth behind Coeur De Lion, beaten by 21 lengths.

Noble, 20, said at Nottingham on Saturday: "I made a mistake and apologise to everyone concerned. You can’t reverse time so I’ve just got to keep my head down and work twice as hard to prove myself again.

"I was disappointed in myself more than anything after the race. I’ve got to move on from it and today’s another day so I’m just looking forward to getting back out there."

Noble shared the spoils in the Ayr Gold Cup aboard the Paul Cole-trained Baron Bolt last year and ended owner Marwan Koukash’s wait for a winner at the May meeting with victory aboard Heart Of Soul.

Based with Michael Bell, the rider has set his sights on a tilt at the Stobart Champion Apprentice title this campaign.

Noble said: "It was great to ride my first winner at Chester for Marwan Koukash earlier in the day – he hadn’t had much luck there this week so it was fantastic to get one on the board for him and Ian Williams, who has been very good to me and given me lots of opportunities recently.

"I’d love to go for the apprentice title this season and that’s my main aim. I just want to ride as many winners as possible and see where it takes me."
