Delia Bushell's appointment at the Jockey Club has given a clear signal where the largest commercial body in British racing's priorities lie.

The former Sky and BT Sport executive has not been given the job in order to plan new owner and trainer facilities at the group's 15 racecourses.

Bushell has been brought in with her expertise in broadcasting and media rights in mind, an area needing urgent attention given the threat to the Jockey Club's finances from the expected closure of swathes of betting shops due to the government's FOBT crackdown.
