'We will be monitoring closely how the industry responds' - Government warning

Racing is set to be scrutinised by the Government in its reaction and dedication to the five-year strategic welfare plan unveiled by the Horse Welfare Board (HWB) on Thursday.
The industry has been warned it needs to show that horse safety and care is at the forefront of its thinking.
Convincing politicians, as well as the public, of the importance racing places on welfare, including the use of the whip, was cited by the HWB as crucial for the future due to changing social and political attitudes towards using animals in sport.
