Britain to help other nations administer racing

Britain and Ireland are among four major racing nations - France and Germany being the others - who will provide assistance in the training and development of racecourse officials, such as handicappers, starters, clerks of the scales and veterinary officers, to other members of the European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation.

The decision to help the smaller racing countries in administering the sport was made at a meeting of the EMHF, which represents 27 racing authorities, held in Bratislava, Slovakia, on Monday.

EMHF chairman Brian Kavanagh said: “Education is a central focus of the EMHF. This exciting new initiative will complement an established programme of seminars in providing the ‘smaller’ countries with another means to learn and implement best practice in the administration of the sport.”
