Brilliant second Arc victory boosts Enable's chance of more Cartier glory

Enable strengthened her claims for more Cartier Racing Awards honours at the annual Dorchester Hotel ceremony on November 13 with a brilliant success in Sunday’s Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Only Ouija Board (2004 and 2006) and Frankel (2011 and 2012) have been crowned Horse Of The Year twice, but Enable’s short-neck success over Sea Of Class at Longchamp gives her a definite chance of joining such illustrious company even though she trails leader Roaring Lion by 118 points on 56.

The participation of the public plays a crucial role in determining the winners of the awards, which were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing, and gives fans the chance to vote for their favourite horses in a meaningful way.

The eight awards are delivered through a combination of points earned by horses in Pattern races (30 per cent), combined at the end of the season with the opinion of a panel of journalists /handicappers (35 per cent) and votes from readers of the Racing Post and Daily Telegraph plus ITV Racing viewers (35 per cent).

Three-year-old filly contender Laurens boosted her claims for that category with a trademark display of class and resilience to land the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

Karl Burke’s stable star, who has accumulated 152 points with four victories at Group 1 level this year, which include a defeat of the mighty Alpha Centauri in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown, is due to challenge for Breeders’ Cup glory at Churchill Downs, Kentucky early next month.

Mabs Cross is now in pole position for sprinter honours after her last-gasp success in Longchamp’s Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye.

The Michael Dods-trained filly is 20 points clear of her rivals on 68 points.
