Boanas begins fresh start at the Reveley Saltburn stables

The name has changed over the famous Saltburn stable but the Cleveland yard remains home to Teescomponents Lad, who becomes the first runner for Gillian Boanas after being one of the last for the recently retired Keith Reveley.

For 25 years the new trainer worked for the Reveleys and since 1999 as head girl to an operation that once had 100 horses and a record year with 189 winners on the Flat and jumps.

Boanas, who has been training point-to-pointers successfully for a couple of years, starts with 11 ready to run and 17 in all after renting one of the Reveley barns.

"I have big boots to fill," said Boanas, 41. "Everything is much the same but I'm following in very big footprints and the Reveleys have been very supportive - all the owners have been great as well."

After many late nights last summer doing a crash course in her trainer's modules Boanas, who has a dual licence, added: "It is nerve-racking times but I could have three runners this week who should be knocking on the door and it would be good to get a winner on the board.

"Teescomponents Lad could have done without the rain as he wants better ground but he ran well in his first bumper and has been working great."

Boanas has turned to a familiar face to ride as Emma Todd has partnered the pointers that Boanas has trained.

"She's over the moon to get the mount," added Boanas.

Floramoss could run at Newcastle on Wednesday, although Boanas is worried the two-mile trip might be on the short side for the mare but with heavy ground to compensate.

After Toniight is pencilled in for another 1m4f maiden on the Flat back at Gosforth Park on Friday.
