All you need to know about the coronavirus lockdowns restrictions where you live

England

England has entered a national lockdown akin to the severe restrictions that were in place in April and May last year. The rules are set to remain in place until at least half-term for schools, which starts on February 15. Elite sport can continue but racecourse attendance is strictly limited to the minimum number of people required for a fixture to operate. No spectators, bookmakers or owners are permitted. People are being asked to stay at home and not to travel or to stay local to “your village, town or the part of a city where you live”. Owners are being discouraged from making non-essential journeys to yards.

Scotland

A national lockdown was announced on Monday by first minister Nicola Sturgeon, with people only able to leave home for a limited number of reasons, such as essential shopping or hospital treatment. Elite sport can continue but under the same conditions as England. The restrictions are to remain in place until at least February 1.

Wales

Alert Level 4 has been in place since last month with restrictions nearly mirroring those under the lockdowns in England and Scotland. Racing continues on the same terms as those countries. Restrictions are not expected to be reviewed before January 29.

Ireland

The cabinet is due to meet on Thursday to discuss delaying the return of schools until February. Hospitality and non-essential retail is closed, but racing has continued to operate behind closed doors and is able to under the government’s coronavirus road map. Travel is restricted with owners discouraged from attending yards.

Northern Ireland

Restrictions came into force on December 26 limiting indoor mixing and travel. These are due to remain in force for six week but will be reviewed after four weeks. As in Ireland, racing continues behind closed doors.
