Head of racing Andrew Morris joins recent exodus from Chester
It will be all change at Chester this year. Not only has a new chief executive been appointed, but head of racing Andrew Morris is also leaving after ten years in the job.
He will be replaced by Andrew Tulloch, who will act as clerk of the course at Chester and sister track Bangor from the spring until the end of 2022.
Richard Thomas was dismissed for "misuse of company resources" last May, having served as chief executive for more than 20 years, and has been replaced by Louise Stewart, who was formerly CEO of Alexandra Park and Palace in London,
Explaining his decision to leave, Morris said: "I've decided to return to university and study for an MBA in Australia.
"I've been at Chester for ten years, I've loved my time there and I'm really proud of what we've achieved, but I'd been considering the next stage of my career for a while and I'd been thinking about studying.
"I've always wanted to get a masters in business and finance or an MBA, I wasn't convinced I could commit to doing it part-time and when this came up I thought, 'what an amazing opportunity'.
"I leave Chester and Bangor at the end of March and head to Melbourne for a year at the beginning of April."
Morris, 40, came through the BHA graduate scheme and was clerk of the course at Huntingdon and Warwick before taking over at Bangor and Chester.
"I'd love to continue my career in racing when I come back," he said. "It's an industry I love, it's all I've ever worked in. But it's important for me to take this opportunity."
Tulloch served as clerk of the course at Aintree for 24 years until stepping down in January 2020.
