Disappointing for Goodwood but talks will continue to get crowds back on course

Throughout the coronavirus crisis there have been many false dawns, redrawn plans and sudden new realities, meaning those in charge of trying to get spectators back on the racecourse do not lack for experience.

Before getting the clearance to run the pilot event for 5,000 people at Goodwood on Saturday, the course’s managing director Adam Waterworth had outlined how plans had needed to be changed and changed again as the parameters altered and advice was updated.

However, they had nearly reached the finish line (or starting line depending on your view of it) and the changing government position on Friday caused great disappointment at the racecourse and through the rest of the organisations involved in the project.
