2022 York Ebor tips: Wednesday's best bets from our Racing Post experts
Day one of the York Ebor festival is here - but who do our top tipsters fancy most?
Chaldean
By Kevin Morley
Odds: 13-2
Winning form over the trip is the trend that starts to narrow down the field. Likely favourite Local Dynasty meets that criteria but, as visually impressive as his debut success was, the form has yet to be tested.
At a bigger price, the vote goes to Chaldean, whose Newbury win is working out nicely with the three who followed him home winning next time. Given the entries Oviedo holds, he is obviously considered a decent prospect and is best of the rest.
Aikhal
By Paul Kealy
Race:3.00 York (Great Voltigeur Stakes)
Odds: 7-2
The value is surely with Aikhal, who ran away with a Group 3 when upped to 1m2f last time at the Curragh.
His odds were 20-1, which is a big price for an Aidan O'Brien-trained Group winner, but that was largely down to his preparation, as this season he'd run only in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot at odds of 50-1 when apparently a social runner for his part owners.
Fourth in Group 1 company over a mile as a juvenile, Aikhal was always likely to be better at middle distances as he's by Galileo out of a half-sister to an Irish Derby winner, and there was no fluke about that last success.
Mrs U S A
By Robbie Wilders
Race:5.20 York (Nursery Handicap)
Odds: 9-2
George Boughey is one of the best young trainers around and can add to his successes at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood with Mrs USA in the 6f nursery to conclude the opening day of York's Ebor meeting.
Mrs USA twice bumped into Lady Hollywood when second on her first two runs and that filly has subsequently won a Listed race in Ireland. A mark of 81 could grossly underestimate her and the step up to six furlongs promises to suit on pedigree and visual impression.
Wednesday's previews:
1.50 York: can Dakota Gold bring the house down as Ebor festival starts with a sprint?
2.25 York: outsider could prove the value as unexposed juveniles line up in open Acomb
3.00 York: can 'worthy favourite' Secret State handle the step up to Group 2 company?
3.35 York: 'I think he'll stay, no problem' - Haggas on Baaeed's Juddmonte test
