Mohican looks ready to scale new heights with Derby victory

Mohican Heights has been underestimated in the market as he ran a cracker when third behind Pyledriver on his seasonal reappearance at Royal Ascot, finishing a place ahead of Mogul, who is towards the front of the betting.

He was four lengths behind reopposing winner Pyledriver, but Andrea Atzeni gave Mohican Heights a lot to do that day and appeared to track the wrong horse.

Atzeni had Mogul in his sights the whole way up the straight and beat the favourite, but Mohican Heights was out of his ground with the leaders and couldn’t catch Pyledriver.

The selection shaped as though he was in need of the outing and a stiff test of stamina. He should improve with that run under his belt and a stronger pace should bring his staying power into play.

Wherever Mogul finishes, I’m expecting Mohican Heights to be right there with him and he has to be a buy on the index in a race that rewards those who finish in the first four. At six on the index he only has to scrape into fourth for a payout.
