Dual Breeders' Cup winner Secret Circle on the move to Elite Thoroughbreds
Also winner of the Dubai Golden Shaheen, he will be a big cheese in Louisiana
Dual Breeders’ Cup hero and emerging young sire Secret Circle will relocate to Michele Rodriguez’s Elite Thoroughbreds in Louisiana in a deal brokered by Chad Schumer of Schumer Bloodstock.
A brilliantly fast horse for Bob Baffert, Secret Circle pulled off the rare achievement of winning two individual Breeders’ Cup races, including the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
He becomes the first Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner to stand in Louisiana and as the winner of approximately $3.7 million in prize-money, also becomes one of the highest-earning horses to ever stand in the state.
“Secret Circle presents an unprecedented opportunity for Louisiana breeders to use a Breeders’ Cup Sprint champion who is in what may be the deepest crop of freshman sires we’ve seen in years,” said Chad Schumer.
“His first crop have already shown tremendous promise, including Reach The Circle, who came close to winning the Louisiana Futurity, and impressive allowance winner Secret Rules.”
The winner of eight races, Secret Circle, who has been standing at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, swept through an unbeaten juvenile season that culminated with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint at Churchill Downs.
Secret Circle was considered an early candidate for the Kentucky Derby at three when he won the Rebel Stakes and Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park. He was also second to Bodemeister in the Arkansas Derby.
Speed was Secret Circle’s real asset, however. Cut back in distance as an older horse, he went on to add the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at four and Dubai Golden Shaheen at six. He was also runner-up in a second renewal of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at five prior to finishing second in the Cigar Mile Handicap.
Secret Circle is already the sire of 13 winners out of his first crop, including two black-type runners in Woopigsooie and Reach The Circle. His first crop also includes the exciting Secret Rules, the recent near nine-length winner in allowance company at Aqueduct, in addition to Wasjuannowpaul, the winner of two of his three starts, and recent debut winner Ah Yeah.
His progeny have also sold for up to $180,000 at auction. A member of the increasingly important Unbridled sire line, Secret Circle is out of stakes-winning sprinter Ragtime Hope. Secret Circle will stand alongside Apriority, Catalina Red, Mypalcharlie and Sassicaia at Elite Thoroughbreds.
