The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Saturday afternoon
The Stewards' Cup is one of the hardest heritage handicaps to win all season and it shows just how highly regarded Meraas is that he was sent off 11-2 to take the race last year as a three-year-old. Punters weren't far off the mark, either, as he led for much of the race, only to be overhauled in the final 150 yards by several fast-finishing rivals, including eventual winner Summerghand. Meraas has disappointed in four subsequent starts, but this race has probably been the aim since last season and he could be primed for a career-best on his third run back from gelding and wind operations. A high draw in 24 is ideal, while the booking of Ryan Moore increases enthusiasm.
This year's edition of the Listed Chalice Stakes is wide open but I love the way Ralph Beckett has placed Yesyes so far and it's interesting that she remains in the St Leger. The improving filly beat smart bumper performer Eileendover and recent winner Thousand Oaks on debut and backed that up in fine style under a penalty at Lingfield. Connections bypass a handicap tilt off a mark of 90 to come here, which speaks volumes, and the extra half a furlong will help her cause.
