The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on day one of Cheltenham

GOOD THING

Next Destination (4.50 Cheltenham)

Royal Pagaille's defection has opened the door for Next Destination, who was quickly confirmed as a runner in this race once his Venetia Williams-trained rival was rerouted to the Gold Cup. The best horse in the field on ratings with the potential to improve over this 3m6f trip, Next Destination looks the standout bet at the prices and almost certainly warrants being closer to ante-post favourite Galvin in the market. Winner of seven races from 11 starts and trained with the festival in mind, it would be no surprise if Next Destination ended day one of Cheltenham on a high for the Paul Nicholls team.

EYECATCHER

(1.20 Cheltenham)

Appreciate It is clearly the horse to beat but I want to take him on over an inadequate 2m trip and a 25-1 ante-post ticket is riding on Soaring Glory, who began to fulfil his early potential when bolting up in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury just over three weeks ago. The strong traveller is sure to be suited by a championship pace and although he has a few pounds to find on official ratings, further improvement is assured. I can't see him out of the first three and hopefully he can throw it down to the longtime market leader.

DARK HORSE

(2.30 Cheltenham)

This eight-year-old strikes me as a horse who has been campaigned with the Cheltenham Festival in mind. His beginners' chase form last year was solid if not sparkling, but he turned up in the Kim Muir over a trip far longer than he's ever encountered and bolted in off a mark of 141. He returned this season with a narrow victory over Discorama, but has been set tough tasks since and there is no surprise to see him freshened up for the task in hand. I expect Milan Native to run back to the same level of form as he showed 12 months ago. If he does, he's a live player.
