Cheltenham Tuesday tips: five horses to back on day one of the festival

Tuesday's best bets ranked in order of confidence by our top tipsters

Ace tipster

Next Destination (4.50 Cheltenham)

A classy hurdler and unbeaten chaser, he has ended up in the right race and looks a massive threat to Galvin.
Keith Melrose

Speed figures

Metier(1.20 Cheltenham)

His timeline mirrors his progressive profile and the Harry Fry-trained five-year-old can stretch his successful sequence to four.
Dave Edwards

Eyecatcher

Goshen (3.05 Cheltenham)

Looked better than ever at Wincanton last month and can gain overdue compensation for last season's heart-wrenching Triumph Hurdle defeat.
Marcus Buckland

Handicappers' nap

Appreciate It (1.20 Cheltenham)

Although not as convincing on his most recent start, the form of his initial Grade 1 success at Leopardstown in December looks strong and a repeat of that level of performance will probably suffice in an opener that looks relatively weak.

Dark horse

Saldier(3.05 Cheltenham)

The Willie Mullins-trained Saldier was towards the top of last year's ante-post market after an impressive display in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown in 2019, but missed the rest of the season through injury. He has been soundly beaten in both runs this season on desperate ground, however, there is reason to believe that he should be at peak fitness now. Danny Mullins knows his mount well having won on him in the Morgiana and he should travel strongly off a likely searching pace, with spring ground also in his favour. Odds of 50-1 look too big in an open race.
