Using the Racing Post's unrivalled bank of stats, we pick out three horses to back tonight based on trainer form, RPRs and, tonight's wild card of a sole runner for an in-form yard . . .

Trainer form

Jimmy Rabbitte
8.30 Newton Abbot
Angle: Richard Newland is operating at a 38 per cent strike-rate

Summer jump racing has long been fertile ground for Grand National-winning trainer Richard Newland, and this year is no exception.

Newland has had three winners and two placed horses from his last eight runners and looks to have another good chance with Jimmy Rabbitte.

The six-year-old has won two of his three starts for Newland and drops in grade this evening. He is progressive and unexposed.

Ratings

Roman De Senam
6.50 Newton Abbot
Angle: top-rated on RPRs

Roman De Senam is in good old order at the moment winning two of his last three races, recording improved RPRs on each occasion.

The seven-year-old slammed Tea For Two over course and distance last time out and is up 8lb in the weights as a result. However, his good form gives him every chance of overcoming the rise.

Wild card

Mackarr
7.10 Newbury
Angle: In-form trainer Roger Varian's only runner

This handsome son of Cape Cross was tried in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom before finding the London Gold Cup too much to handle.

Connections had always seen him as a 1m4f type, so the step up in trip should suit him this evening and he remains unexposed.

Trainer Roger Varian had a double on the final day of Royal Ascot with Defoe and Cape Bryon, and it is notable Mackarr is his only runner of the day.
