Betting preview
The women's skeleton has been a goldmine for Team GB since the sport was reintroduced to the Winter Olympics schedule in 2002, having not featured since 1948.
Alex Coomber got the ball rolling with a bronze medal at Salt Lake City and Shelley Rudman picked up silver at Turin 2006 before Amy Williams went one better to claim gold in Vancouver in 2010.
Lizzy Yarnold continued the upward trend by winning the gold medal in 2014 and 2018 and teammate Laura Deas joined her on the podium with bronze at Pyeongchang.
Deas is again in the field in Beijing but, after finishing 20th in the World Cup standings with a best result of 14th place at Sigulda on New Year's Eve, it would be a huge shock if she was able to keep Britain's medal run going.
The 33-year-old Welshwoman hovered around the fringes of the top 15 in the training runs, which have seen the home team China and Germany set the most impressive times.
There will be a lot of pressure on the Chinese athletes, who didn't muster a podium finish between them during a selective World Cup campaign this winter and it seems more likely that a German will take the gold.
Germany is the dominant nation in all the sliding sports and the junior world champion Hannah Neise could be the best bet. That success showed she has the nerve for a big standalone event, and was first, second, fourth, first and second in the five training runs she took part in.
Ester Ledecka goes for a unique double double in the women's Alpine super-G (starting at 3am on Thursday night). The Czech became the first competitor to win two golds in different sports at the same Winter Olympics in 2018 when she won the snowboard parallel giant slalom and the Alpine super-G.
Ledecka justified favouritism to retain her snowboarding title on Tuesday, but she will be a bigger price to win on the Yanquing mountain, where Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami and Italian Federica Brignone will be the favourites.
