Wednesday's betting preview
Attention turned to the Alexander Stadium at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday and reigning men's 100m champion Akani Simbine is just 10-11 to defend his crown on Wednesday after easing through the heats on the opening day of track action.
South African Simbine, who won the event on the Gold Coast in 2018 and was fourth at the 2020 Olympics, sauntered into the semi-finals in a time of 10.10 seconds and the layers believe he is the man to beat in Birmingham.
However, while Simbine is likely to run his race, he may well require a sub-ten effort to win - something which he has achieved only once this year, and he may not match the speed of Ferdinand Omanyala, who became the seventh-fastest man of all-time when he clocked 9.77 in his native Kenya in September 2021.
Omanyala, who secured the African record with that performance, is running with a point to prove after visa issues meant that he arrived late for last month's World Championships in Oregon.
That poor preparation saw him exit after the heats at the Worlds but he looked in fine fettle in running 10.07 from lane eight in Tuesday's opening round.
He has finished ahead of Simbine in their three previous meetings, including when winning the African title in June, and can defeat him again should they meet in the final, which starts at 9.30pm UK & Ireland time.
