Thursday's betting preview
Two-time world champion Rohan Dennis and 2018 Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas are the two big names expected to take all the beating in the men's time trial at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday.
Dennis, a four-time Australian TT champ to go with his pair of world triumphs, won bronze at last year's Olympics and this field is inevitably much weaker.
Thomas, miles down on Dennis in Tokyo last summer, is back to near his best after a fine Tour where he made the podium and finished fourth on Stage 20, a 40km time trial. Today's time trial is a comparable 37km.
Those two names should be on the podium but that means there's another place for anyone fancying an each-way punt with New Zealand's Aaron Gate taken to deliver at 33-1.
Gate won the New Zealand national time trial in 2021 and is clearly in the form of his life having already won three golds at the Lee Valley VeloPark over the past week.
The Aussies are looking for a time trial double with two-time and reigning Australian national champion Grace Brown 2-9 to lead them home in the women's race.
After the sparring in the cricket at Edgbaston there's the first really big showdown as the top two in Group B, England and New Zealand, meet for the right to avoid playing Australia in the semis. England are 4-9 to get the job done.
