The Red Group gets the WTA Finals action in Shenzhen started on Sunday and world number three Naomi Osaka can register an early victory against Petra Kvitova.

The Japanese ace lost all three of her group matches in last season’s event but she heads to China full of confidence this time having
overhauled Ashleigh Barty in the Beijing final earlier this month.

Osaka had seen off US Open heroine Bianca Andreescu and defending champion Caroline Wozniacki prior to beating Barty and is evidently performing close to her peak.

That was a second consecutive title for Osaka, who had also claimed silverware on home soil in Japan in September.

Osaka’s purple patch can continue with victory over Kvitova, who has won only two of her last nine matches in this season-closing event.
