Preview

Sofia Kenin gets the nod with most bookmakers to justify favouritism in the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai, which starts on Tuesday morning, but Aryna Sabalenka could take the beating if the Belarusian is in the mood.

Given all the hype that preceded her 2019 campaign, it hasn't been a great year for Sabalenka.

But she has done some of her best work in recent weeks, retaining the title in Wuhan, and victory in Guangdong province would go some way to making up for a quieter season than was anticipated by many.

Madison Keys is clear third in the outright betting, but the popular American is far from being a winning machine.

Karolina Muchova is fast becoming a seriously impressive performer who could go on to Grand Slam success in future. The powerful Czech merits plenty of respect.

Petra Martic is good enough but still lacks belief in the Slams. That may not hold her back in this event, however.

If Sabalenka doesn't bludgeon her way to the title, the path could open up for top youngster Dayana Yastremska. The Ukrainian teenager is a blinding talent and looks sure to climb further up the WTA chart next season.

In the ATP action, Hyeon Chung could see support for his Vienna clash with Milos Raonic. Canadian Raonic has not been playing much tennis, while Chung is steadily clawing his way back to full fitness after a long injury break.
