Benoit Paire is on a bit of a downer but Gael Monfils has much to look forward to when the duo take to the court in the Paris Masters.

Paire has had a pretty good campaign himself but he wasn't best pleased with the recent Far East swing and says he won't be competing in Japan and China next season.

Punters should know Paire well enough to take anything he says with a pinch of salt, but those negative comments are unlikely to help him going into a difficult clash with his fellow Frenchman Monfils.

La Monf has been producing some of the best tennis of his career in 2019 and while Paire at his best could trouble the Parisian, the favourite should find a way to progress.

Monfils is understandably a little short in the match betting, but it could still be worth an interest backing him to successfully concede Paire a handicap start of 2.5 games.

Paire is no stranger to contesting tiebreak sets, but Monfils' extra class should tell in the end.

Naomi Osaka's withdrawal due to injury from the WTA Finals led to last week's Elite Trophy Zhuhai runner-up Kiki Bertens replacing the Japanese and the Dutchwoman is eyeing a possible semi-finals berth in Shenzhen after defeating Ash Barty 3-6 6-3 6-4.
