Corentin Moutet v Pedro Cachin

Corentin Moutet impressed on his way to victory over dangerous Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp in the last round and can make the last 16 of a Grand Slam for the first time with victory over Pedro Cachin. Moutet defeated Cachin in a clay Challenger final in June and his Argentinian opponent needed five sets to see off Aljaz Bedene and Brandon Holt in the opening two rounds.

Andy Murray v Matteo Berrettini

Andy Murray is playing some decent stuff and should be pleased with wins over Francisco Cerundolo and Emilio Nava. However, Matteo Berrettini is a completely different calibre of opponent and the Italian 13th seed, who was a quarter-finalist here last year and made the final four in 2019, should find a way to come out on top.

Tommy Paul v Casper Ruud

Tommy Paul has come through two five-set thrillers against Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Sebastian Korda, but his luck may run out in his third-round duel with fifth seed Casper Ruud. The Norwegian, who was runner-up at the French Open in June, may be at his best on clay but his four-set win over Tim van Rijthoven last time shows his hard-court game is extremely strong too.

Pablo Carreno Busta v Alex de Minaur

Pablo Carreno Busta warmed up for the US Open with a title triumph in Montreal and the Spaniard, who appears to love the fast pace of Stateside courts, should be too strong for Alex de Minaur. Carreno Busta is a two-time semi-finalist in New York and there was a lot to like about his four-set wins over Dominic Thiem and Alexander Bublik in the previous rounds.

Bianca Andreescu v Caroline Garcia

Caroline Garcia is in the form of her life and having won three titles already this year, she looks a genuine title contender in New York. The Frenchwoman, whose US Open preparations concluded with silverware in Cincinnati, has lost only four of her last 32 matches and she had the beating of Bianca Andreescu in the final in Bad Homburg in June so is taken to come out on top once more.
