Marin Cilic v Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz has sauntered into the last 16 of the US Open with three straight-sets victories and the Spanish teenager can overcome Marin Cilic, who needed four sets to see off Dan Evans in the last round. Alcaraz has won both meetings with Cilic this year in straight sets, including a 7-6 6-1 win in Cincinnati in August.

Ilya Ivaskha v Jannik Sinner

Ilya Ivaskha has a strong hard-court game and has already knocked out number eight seed Hubert Hurkacz, but Jannik Sinner is a step up in class. The Italian showed great composure in coming from behind to overcome American ace Brandon Nakashima in the last round and looks a potential future Grand Slam winner.

Frances Tiafoe v Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal saved his most convincing performance of the US Open so far when outclassing Richard Gasquet in straight sets in the previous round and he can follow up with victory over Frances Tiafoe. Nadal won the Australian Open and the French Open before withdrawing ahead of his Wimbledon semi-final, meaning he has won all 22 Grand Slam matches he has contested this year.

Danielle Collins v Aryna Sabalenka

Australian Open runner-up Danielle Collins is well suited to the quick US Open surface and the American can prevail in her battle with fellow heavy hitter Aryna Sabalenka, who is wildly inconsistent and can put herself on the back foot with a string of unforced errors. The support of the home crowd should help Collins, who has made the last 16 without dropping a set.

Petra Kvitova v Jessica Pegula

There is little to separate this pair in the betting but Petra Kvitova may have the edge on court. The experienced Czech finished runner-up in warming up for this event in Cincinnati and she showed great resilience in her come-from-behind win over Garbine Muguruza last time out. Jessica Pegula is talented but may find her in-form opponent too much to handle.
