Novak Djokovic produced a returning masterclass to beat Juan Martin del Potro in the final of the US Open and the Serb is now 6-5 with Betway to end the season as world number one.

Djokovic, who went two years without a success at the highest level before winning Wimbledon in July, won a 14th Slam of his stellar career as he defeated Del Potro in straight sets in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Del Potro, who won the title at Flushing Meadows in 2009, battled for three hours and 19 minutes but was powerless to stop Djokovic as the ante-post tournament favourite won 6-3 7-6 6-3.

Betway also make the 31-year-old their 5-2 favourite to win a third consecutive Grand Slam title as the Australian Open in 2019 while most bookmakers make him shorter than 2-1. He is 13-5 with Betfair to successfully defend his Wimbledon crown.

Aryna Sabalenka, who took a set off women’s US Open heroine Naomi Osaka in New York, is in action in Canada’s WTA Coupe Banque Nationale against Varvara Lepchenko and is an unsurprisingly skinny price to defeat the American on a carpeted indoor surface which should suit her powerful game.

A better bet could be to take Lucie Safarova to ease past lowly-ranked Tunisian Ons Jabeur in Quebec.

Czech ace Safarova is a former top-ten player who was not disgraced in losing to Ashleigh Barty at Flushing Meadows and she’s likely to have too much power for her limited opponent.

Recommendation
L Safarova to win 2-0
