Felix Auger-Aliassime v Carlos Alcaraz

The quarter-finals of the US Open start in New York City on Tuesday and there's a thrilling encounter in store between two of the sport's finest young talents, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Carlos Alcaraz.

Auger-Aliassime, who recently turned 21, is the favourite courtesy of his higher rank and greater experience, but while the Canadian looks well placed to one day go to the top of the pile, it's possible he may be usurped by Alcaraz, who has belied his youth to look a superb prospect on hard courts.

Nonetheless, Auger-Aliassime looks to have the more complete game right now and should justify odds of 1-2 to progress.

However, although the favourite should dominate for much of the encounter, a handicap start of 1.5 looks a stern task and backing him to make light of a handicap of -2.5 games is preferred.

Botic Van de Zandschulp v Daniil Medvedev

Botic Van de Zandschulp's victory over Diego Schwartzman means he has fully arrived on the Grand Slam scene and while Daniil Medvedev is a master at nullifying opponents, his Dutch rival has such promise, potential and physical power that he could make a match out of their quarter-final rumble.

The price of Medvedev, second seed and second favourite throughout to Novak Djokovic, to win his maiden Grand Slam singles crown in New York City this year has contracted after the Russian's run of four straight-sets wins.

But qualifier Van de Zandschulp, who also eliminated eighth seed Christian Ruud in round two, is showing he is no respecter of reputations and his court prowess could help to prolong the encounter.

Elina Svitolina v Leylah Fernandez

Elina Svitolina is all the rage to win this last-eight clash after dismissing Simona Halep 6-3 6-3.

The Ukrainian may be difficult to beat, but the fearless Leylah Fernandez will do her best to deny the fifth seed victory.

The Canadian lacks nothing when it comes to determination and the talented Fernandez, who has just turned 19, may be good enough to pose problems for Svitolina and help make the match last for at least 20 games.

Barbora Krejcikova v Aryna Sabalenka

It's difficult to choose whether to back Barbora Krejcikova to upset higher-ranked opponent Aryna Sabalenka or to back the quarter-final clash to last for more than 21 games.

Krejcikova, victorious over Garbine Muguruza in the last 16, could triumph – the Czech looks as if she can progress to become a better all-round performer than Belarusian Sabalenka.

But while there is less finesse and beauty in Sabalenka's blunt, power-propelled game, she is seeded second for a reason and should be respected because of that.

Unlike Sabalenka, French Open champion Krejcikova has already tasted singles success at Slam level and that came just three months ago so, of the two, it may pay to chance the over-the-games option.
