Elena-Gabriela Ruse looks as if she has a decent career in front of her on the WTA Tour and the Romanian could be worth supporting in her Bucharest Open first-round clash with Barbora Krejcikova in her native city.

Czech 23-year-old Krejcikova is a talented performer, but she doesn't play on the main tour as often as she might and battles quite a bit with injury niggles.

She was runner-up to Kiki Bertens on the Nuremberg clay in 2017, but things have gone rather quiet for Krejcikova, who seems to enjoy playing doubles as much as singles.

Ruse, 21, is ranked a lowly 176th in the world but she looks capable of rising a lot higher on the WTA chart.

She dropped only one set in qualifying for Wimbledon recently before being outclassed by Julia Goerges in round one of the London major.

Krejcikova has been in fine form at ITF level, winning four titles since April. Clearly she is unlikely to be easy pickings for Ruse, but the outsider has shown enough to think that she may be capable of winning at least a set.

In Lausanne, it's difficult to quibble with Timea Bacsinszky being only a shade of odds-on to defeat her Swiss compatriot Jil Teichmann.

Prague champion Teichmann has plenty going for her in her career, but Bacsinszky has gone close in majors in recent years.

With plenty of pride on the line, if Bacsinszky is fit and out to impress at the Lake Geneva resort, she should probably be priced shorter.

Pre-tournament selection Mandy Minella withdrew before playing a match, which is probably just as well for her prospective backers as she had drawn talented young qualifier Anastasia Potapova in round one.

Minella's place in the draw was taken by Kristina Kucova, who duly fell 6-3 6-1 to Potapova.

Roger Federer is 7-2 with Betway to win at least one more Grand Slam singles title in his career and 5-1 with the same firm to add to his tally of eight Wimbledon wins following his five-set All England Club defeat to Novak Djokovic on Sunday.
