Thursday preview

The Western and Southern Open has reached the last-16 stage with all eight matches from both the ATP and WTA tournaments due to take place on Thursday in Cincinnati.

Two of the ATP's most talented youngsters go head-to-head in the evening session when Felix Auger-Aliassime looks value at odds-against to take down Jannik Sinner.

Neither man has been perfect in North America this summer but Auger-Aliassime impressed in beating Cameron Norrie in Montreal and looked in fine form again when seeing off Alex de Minaur in his first Cincinnati outing.

Sinner, meanwhile, struggled to get past Thanasi Kokkinakis in his first-round match before benefiting when Miomir Kecmanovic retired in their second-round contest.

Auger-Aliassime ran out a 6-1 6-2 winner in their only previous meeting on clay in Madrid in May and he looks capable of repeating the dose, for all that Sinner should offer more resistance this time around.

Earlier on Thursday, Diego Schwartzman should be capable of winning at least a set when he takes on Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The pair are level at 2-2 in head-to-head meetings but Schwartzman has won both of their previous hard-court meetings. The Argentinian has battled past decent opponents this week in Alex Molcan and Aslan Karatsev, and while Tsitsipas represents a much tougher test, he could still be undercooked having played just two matches since Wimbledon.

In the women's tournament, Emma Raducanu can continue her confidence-boosting run by defeating American hope Jessica Pegula.

Crushing wins over Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka are perhaps not as impressive as they look on paper but they will have provided a significant mental boost for the British player, who is dangerous if operating at anything close to her US Open-winning best.
