Preview

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer meet for the first time since the Wimbledon final in another high-stakes London contest at the ATP Tour Finals and bookmakers expect the Serb to prevail again.

The legendary pair, who boast 36 Grand Slam titles between them, have both been beaten by Dominic Thiem at the O2 this week so this is a must-win contest with the victor advancing to the semi-finals.

Djokovic deserves favouritism. He dropped just three games against Matteo Berrettini in his Bjorn Borg Group opener and was unfortunate to bump into an inspired Thiem on Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old looked to have the victory wrapped up when he led 4-1 in the third-set tie-break but Thiem produced sublime tennis to reel him back in and book his place in the last four.

Federer, beaten in straight sets by Thiem, is capable of doing likewise but the 38-year-old Swiss, who relinquished two match points at Wimbledon in July, may not have the stamina to go toe-to-toe with Djokovic.

He should still keep it close in the early stages and it could be worth backing the first set to be decided by a tie-break.

Federer's serve is still one of the best in the business, particularly on the quick London courts, and the pair played out two regulation breakers in the Wimbledon final before Djokovic won 13-12 in the final set.

Earlier in the day, Thiem should account for Berrettini, but the Austrian is already through while the Italian is playing for pride and should at least put up a fight.
