David Goffin is among the main contenders to win the European Open but he faces a stern challenge from second-round opponent Frances Tiafoe, who is one of the most exciting teenagers on the circuit.

Nineteen-year-old Tiafoe – ranked 79th in the world – has been spoken about as a future star and showed what all the fuss was about by taking two sets off Roger Federer in the first round of this year's US Open.

At the Cincinnati Open in August he defeated Alexander Zverev 4-6 6-3 6-4, marking the first time he had beaten a top-ten player.

Further victories over elite opponents should follow in the not-too-distant future and Tiafoe's powerful baseline game makes him a dangerous opponent for Goffin, who is looking justify his status as the tournament's top seed.

As an 18-year-old Tiafoe lost 3-6 6-3 6-7 to Goffin at Indian Wells in February 2016 (their only previous meeting).

The American's game has progressed significantly over the last 20 months and he is worth backing to win a set.

Recommendation
F Tiafoe to win at least a set
