Ryan Harrison has won all five previous meetings against home hope Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and can maintain his perfect record over the Spaniard with victory in the opening round of the Madrid Open.

The American’s power-packed game wouldn’t be best suited to the slower surface but he was a convincing winner when the pair locked horns on the Estoril clay this time last year and he’s worth chancing to follow up at a bigger price than he should be.

Garcia-Lopez, like many players from Spain, thrives on slower terrain but he has been a first-round casualty in this event in each of the past three seasons and has to prove he can follow up last week's positive showing in Barcelona.

Harrison hasn't been at his best in recent weeks but his record against the Spaniard is formidable and that could spur him on to success.

In the women's action, Garbine Muguruza will have the home crowd behind her and she should ease past Donna Vekic, while fellow Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro could give fourth seed Elina Svitolina something to think about.
