American should be a shorter price

Quarter-finals
From 6pm Friday

Sam Querrey is through to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells for the first time in his career and can go a step further by defeating an out-of-sorts Milos Raonic.

There is little to separate the players in the betting with Querrey the marginal favourite and expectations of a close match are borne out by the head-to-head record which stands at two wins each.

However, Querrey has been the more consistent player recently and deserves to be a shorter price.

In 2017 the American won titles at Los Cabos and Acapulco and reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon.

Querrey started this season slowly but he was a losing finalist in New York last month and has steadily improved at Indian Wells, producing his best effort in Wednesday's 6-3 6-4 fourth-round victory against seasoned Spanish left-hander Feliciano Lopez.

Raonic suffered from a leg injury in the second half of last season and is still struggling to get near peak performance.

He has won two matches at Indian Wells, defeating Canadian qualifier Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4 6-4 and world number 85 Joao Sousa 7-5 4-6 6-2, but faces a far tougher test against Querrey and will come up short unless he can produce his best tennis of the year.
