Pablo Andujar’s experience set to tell against Vatutin
Ex-Godo finalist could be tougher to ditch than Ramos
Continues Friday
A 125-1 or 100-1 shot will earn a semi-final berth in the Grand Prix Hassan II when Alexey Vatutin meets veteran Pablo Andujar in Marrakech and preference is for the senior player.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas folded tamely in his 7-6 6-2 loss to Vatutin, but the Russian qualifier may have a tougher task on his hands against Andujar.
The Spaniard is desperate to climb back up the charts and deployed his protected ranking to gain a main-draw berth in north Africa’s premier clay-court tournament.
Andujar made the final of the Open Godo in Barcelona in 2015. He remains a shrewd operator on slow red courts so back him to successfully concede a start of 1.5 games to Vatutin.
In the weather-hit Samsung Open in Lugano (BT Sport 3, 10am), tournament directors chose to move the play indoors on Thursday in an attempt to get the event completed.
Recommendation
P Andujar -1.5 games
