Both Garbine Muguruza and Karolina Pliskova have held the title of WTA world number one this season and the pair both registered impressive victories in their Tour Finals openers on Sunday. Next they face off in search of White Group supremacy in Singapore.

Pliskova swatted aside Venus Williams before Muguruza defeated Jelena Ostapenko with relative ease and the layers are struggling to separate the pair. There has been money for Pliskova but it's hard to judge which way the market will swing.

Instead, consider backing French Open champion Ostapenko when she faces Williams in the first match of the day.

Ostapenko put up more resistance than the veteran American in her first match, earning eight break points but taking just three of them, while the elder Williams sister created only three opportunities to break against Pliskova.

The Latvian must serve better but her powerful return can expose any weaknesses in Williams' armour.

In the ATP Swiss Indoors, Roger Federer starts his bid for an eighth victory in his hometown tournament and the Basel native is expected to have enough to see off talented young American Frances Tiafoe.
