Miami Masters champ John Isner may not be done with just yet

John Isner has enjoyed a superb year on court and there may yet be one more trick up the American's sleeve as his campaign draws to a close in the ATP Finals.

After two defeats in London, he's a 100-1 chance to turn around his fortunes in the season’s grand finale – and there are probably worse bets to be had than that.

Had Novak Djokovic not been in such imperious form, Isner could have been recommended at three-figure odds for the title. But it's win-only quotes at this stage of the tournament and even if the pair were to meet again in the final, the world number one would be difficult to turn over.

Whatever the merits of a belated, inflated outright bet on big John, the Miami Masters hero could still make Alexander Zverev work hard in their final outing in the Gustavo Kuerten group.

The bookmakers are wide awake to the fact that total-games handicaps should never be too big when a big-server like Isner is in action and it's a similar story with quotes on total games, with a scoreline of, say, 7-6 6-4 not going to be enough for most overs punters to show a profit.

Therefore, while backing the American beanpole to upset the German can be considered, a straightforward interest on the outsider winning at least a set looks the way to go.

Djokovic is difficult to oppose in his clash with Marin Cilic, who fought back to deny Isner 6-7 6-3 6-4 in their second round-robin match.

The Serb is 4-11 for the title having been 4-6 at the outset and it's going to take a special performance to deny him taking the title at the 02 Arena.
