Lucie Safarova may be worth opposing against Su-Wei Hsieh

Lucie Safarova has won all four previous meetings against Su-Wei Hsieh but could struggle to maintain her dominance in the second round of the Strasbourg International.

Safarova is featuring in her first tournament since February and could lack for match fitness against an in-form opponent.

The Czech performer celebrated her return to action by beating Russian qualifier Marina Melnikov on Monday but needed three sets to do so and will need to have come on plenty for that outing to extend her stay in the competition.

Hsieh defeated the classy Kaia Kanepi in the opening round and racked up three successes in Rome before bumping into British number one Johanna Konta in the last-32.

Prior to that, the Taiwan ace made the semi-finals in Rabat and her resurgence could continue against Safarova, who may be a few weeks away from hitting peak form.

An all-Australian clash sees veteran Sam Stosur lock horns with Daria Gavrilova, in what is a repeat of last season’s final.

Stosur pipped her compatriot to Strasbourg silverware 12 months ago but isn’t guaranteed to confirm the form and this tricky affair looks best left alone.

There are some interesting tussles in Geneva, with a showdown between big-serving American Sam Querrey and Guido Pella the pick of the bunch.

The Argentinian got the better of the argument when they met on the Houston clay last month and he could do so again.

Pella is at his best on clay, while the slower terrain makes Querrey’s powerful serve less of a weapon.

French Open qualifying continues today and Eurosport 2 are showing live action from 11am.
