Day four
Eurosport 1 & 2, from 4pm Thursday

After day two of the US Open was decimated by rain, early on Wednesday night bookmakers had prices on just the one second-round match, French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko v Sorana Cirstea.

Ostapenko is 4-7 to progress to the last 32 after a stop-start 6-2 1-6 6-1 victory over Lara Arruabarrena, while Cirstea is 6-4 to upset the Latvian after tidily disposing of qualifier Lesley Kerkhove 6-1 6-3 in her opener.

The powerful Ostapenko, who also went well at Wimbledon soon after her Roland Garros heroics, looks sure to keep on improving but given that the pair are clashing for the first time the prices look about right.

Wimbledon and Australian Open champion Roger Federer has drifted to 2-1 from 15-8 to make it three Grand Slam wins for the season after needing five sets to defeat promising American teenager Frances Tiafoe 4-6 6-2 6-1 1-6 6-4 on Tuesday night.

Top seed Rafael Nadal enjoyed a smoother time of it in a 7-6 6-2 6-2 victory over Dusan Lajovic, after which the French Open hero was cut to 3-1 from 4-1.

Naomi Osaka was slashed to 66-1 from 750-1 after hammering last year's title winner Angelique Kerber 6-3 6-1 on day two.
