Preview

The oddsmakers are expecting a competitive Fed Cup final between Australia and France, which starts in Perth at 3am tomorrow.

World number one, French Open champ and last week's WTA Finals Shenzhen heroine Ashleigh Barty tops the bill for the Aussies and she is accompanied by experienced Sam Stosur, Ajla Tomljanovic, Astra Sharma and Priscilla Hon.

Barty will expect to win her two singles rubbers against a French team comprising Kristina Mladenovic, Caroline Garcia, Alize Cornet, Fiona Ferro and Pauline Parmentier and Australia are worth a punt on the strength of that alone.

France, captained by Julien Benneteau, will expect to boss the concluding doubles should that rubber still be live.

Much could depend on 2011 US Open champ Stosur, who can still be a fine performer when the occasion demands it.

Tomljanovic is capable but the penny has yet to drop in top-level tennis for the Croatia-born shrinking violet.
