The top half of the Monterrey Open draw looks more competitive than the bottom and it could pay to have an interest on promising Anna Blinkova to defeat Rebecca Peterson in a first-round tussle.

Peterson showed what she could do when reaching the semi-finals in Acapulco last month, but the Swede comes up with the goods too infrequently to make her one to trust.

Blinkova is just feeling her way on the main tour but there's little doubt that the Russian teenager is one to follow.

WTA tournament previews

Her best years clearly lie ahead, but the 19-year-old may still be good enough to find a way past her 22-year-old opponent.

In Charleston, dual finalist Elena Vesnina should have too much for Madison Brengle.
