Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka dominate the top half of the draw in the women's arm of the China Open, which starts early on Saturday morning, and Osaka could be a huge force after reaching the Tokyo final in her first outing since winning the US Open.

Angelique Kerber and Petra Kvitova also contest the top half but neither seem on top of their game so they can be overlooked for outright purposes.

The bottom half could offer more opportunities for each-way value hunters. Caroline Wozniacki, Caroline Garcia and Elina Svitolina are the highest-ranked players in the lower section but the trio look below their best.

Karolina Pliskova, who undid Osaka in the Tokyo final, has been busy, so instead it could pay to have an interest on Daria Kasatkina bouncing back to form in the Chinese capital.

The Russian does not possess the innate power of opponents such as Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka, but fast-improving Belarusian Sabalenka is due to contest the final in Wuhan on Saturday morning so could be a little fatigued in Beijing.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who went well without reaching the business end in Wuhan, can again be considered with an opener against Mihaela Buzarnescu, who is returning from injury, followed by a possible clash with Pliskova.
