Felix Auger-Aliassime came close to landing a first ATP World Tour title in Stuttgart last week and the in-form teenager is worth backing to beat struggling Grigor Dimitrov at the ATP Fever Tree Championships.

The 18-year-old, playing his first full season on the main tour, reached his third final of 2019 at the Mercedes Cup last week, losing out to Matteo Berrettini, and it is only a matter of time before this immense talent makes his breakthrough.

The big-serving Canadian, who is on the cusp of the world’s top 20, has a game that is well suited to grass. He should enjoy the quick conditions at Queen’s Club.

Dimitrov has looked lost at times this season, failing to progress further than the last 16 at any tournament since making the Brisbane International quarter-finals in January and struggling both mentally and physically.

He has dropped from third in the world to 45th over the last 18 months and may be outgunned by Auger-Aliassime, who should be fresh after his compatriot Milos Raonic withdrew before their Stuttgart semi-final on Saturday.

Elsewhere at Queen’s, Andy Murray makes his return to competitive tennis when he partners Feliciano Lopez in doubles action against number one seeds Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.

The Briton announced his retirement at the Australian Open in January but underwent hip resurfacing surgery in order to return to the sport – Murray and Lopez are 12-5 outsiders against a strong doubles pairing.

In the WTA Nature Valley Classic, Harriet Dart could cause a minor upset by knocking combustible Kazakh Yulia Putintseva out in Birmingham.

The 22-year-old Londonder received a timely confidence boost in beating Vera Lapko in Nottingham last week – on a hard court after the tournament was moved indoors.

She also took a set off top-50 ranked Ajla Tomljanovic in the second round and has every chance of upsetting the odds against a player who has won just three of her 16 career matches on grass, which Dart counts as her favourite surface.
