Pablo Cuevas should have enough to thwart Auger-Aliassime

From 2pm Wednesday

Felix Auger-Aliassime, who was pipped in the Rio Open final last week by Laslo Djere, tries again in Sao Paulo this week but the talented young Canadian may not last as long in the final Golden Swing tournament.

Auger-Aliassime opens in Brazil this week against Pablo Cuevas, whom he beat in the semis in Rio. But the Uruguayan has already been well backed to avenge that loss and the market could be proved right.

Cuevas is unlikely to still be improving as a player aged 33, but the Argentina-born pro is still one of the best proponents of clay-court tennis in South America and is no stranger to collecting titles on the surface.

Paddy Power were going 5-6 about Cuevas successfully conceding Auger-Aliassime a handicap start of 2.5 games, but annoyingly the firm took down their quote.

Punters should check to see if it goes back up before betting, but if the offer has had its day then Hills' 8-11 is still backable.

There's little point in staking heavily given the Canadian's ability, but in terms of consistency on the slow red terrain Cuevas is in another league.

In Acapulco, Stan Wawrinka should have too much for Steve Johnson, who has not been in the best of form, but a handicap of 3.5 games doesn't give Swiss backers much room for victory, especially as the American has been nibbled at to keep it close.

Recommendation
P Cuevas -2.5 games
1pt 8-11 Hills
